Haspengouw

Haspengouw is Belgian Limburg's fruit region. You can cycle and walk between blossom and fruit, enjoy enchanting castles and charming farmhouses, join in celebrations during the blossom and harvest festivals, and, of course, try all the goodies!

Haspengouw is the largest fruit-growing region in Western Europe. In April the landscape turns into a colourful sea of flowers. In the autumn millions of harvest-ripe apples, pears, strawberries, cherries, blackberries, currants, ... arouse your senses. During the blossom and harvest festivals, auctions and fruit businesses open their doors. There are fruit-based activities everywhere. In October the Haspengouw vineyards harvest the grapes for their award-winning wines.

Fortresses, religious monuments, marl caves: Haspengouw breathes history. Here lies Tongeren, Belgium's oldest town. But also the noble town of Borgloon and Sint-Truiden, Flanders' sixth monument city. More than 100 castles dot the landscape, including the Commandery of Alden Biesen, one of the largest castle estates in the Euroregion.

Want to explore the rolling hills, panoramas and church villages of Haspengouw? Do it however you want. Walking or cycling routes, trips with the bicycle taxi, an electric vehicle or a retro VW van ... And all that with or without a guide.

Staying in Haspengouw will give you an excellent taste for Limburg hospitality. Whether you stay in a boutique hotel, B&B, farmhouse, castle or fruit business: you're sure of a warm welcome, a farm-fresh breakfast and unsurpassed helpfulness.
