Royal Zoute Golf Club

27 holes
The Coast

Royal Zoute Golf Club, located in Knokke-Heist on the coast, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Belgium, and sports two splendid 18-hole courses.

Zoute's fairways meander between the undulating dunes in a superb landscape of pine trees, hawthorn, birch and poplar. The ‘outside course’ (Championship Course) makes demands on players' skills, particularly when there is a lot of wind. Not for nothing has Royal Zoute Golf Club on several occasions hosted the Belgian Open on this inland links course, where champions like Jimenez, Clarke, Faldo and Westwood have been crowned the winner.

The ‘inside course' (Executive Course) is challenging and offers plenty of variety with some surprising par 3s, such as hole 8, where you have to hit over the trees.

The beautiful, traditional clubhouse radiates class and distinction, and hosts a bar, a restaurant and a magnificent terrace. In the guest department, you can stay in one of the 7 deluxe rooms with a unique view over the fairway. Enjoy this top course, which always dominates lists of the best courses in continental Europe!

Knocke Golf Club

The history of the Royal Zoute Golf Club dates back to the year 1899, when golf was first played at Knocke-sur-Mer. During the first ten years the club belonged to the Bruges Golf & Sports Club until in 1909 an independent club was founded under the name Knocke Golf Club and the clubhouse was built. English players nicknamed the villa the 'monkey house' because of the climb to the top of the dune, and already played over 18 holes.

Play was suspended during the first World War, as the Germans used the course as a military field and bunkers and 280mm guns were installed for the defence of Zeebrugge and the Scheldt Estuary. After the war a new course was built, and the club was renamed Zoute Golf Club. The predicate Royal was added in 1925. After the Second World War, an Englishman, Lieutenant Colonel Allen, drew up the plans for the present par 72 Championship Course and the par 64 Executive Course.

Many distinguished players, and the Belgian King Leopold III and King Boudouin have played at le Zoute. A club with considerable grandeur, highly recommendable!
