Maritime Museum Baasrode

Scheldt Region

The Scheepvaartmuseum Baasrode (Maritime museum Baasrode) tells the history of shipbuilding in Flanders and Belgium, canal shipping and the floating heritage.

The Flemish floating heritage centre comprises:

  • A maritime museum with an extensive collection that has great historical value.
  • A permanent exposition about inland shipping and the Alyv, a 38-metre Motor Spits from 1938.
  • Three historic shipyards with workshops and dry docks along the Scheldt.
  • The new Rosalie development, an authentic 16 metre eel fishing boat from Baasrode.

The Maritime museum Baasrode is established in the monumental town mansion dating back to 1830 of former shipping entrepreneur Van Damme and on the site of Scheepswerven Baasrode, with the Van Damme, Van Praet-Dansaert and De Landtsheer yards.
